fondant bridal gift cake

got this order from a colleague whose wedding was on 08.08.08. she placed orders for kek hantaran for both her fiancee (or is it fiance? i'm always confused how it shud be spelt... 0) and herself. she showed me pictures of the cakes she had in mind, so i didn't really have to crack my head to come up with suitable designs.

lucky for me, the designs she chose were simple & uncluttered...precisely the way i think fondant cakes should be 'cos to me, a fondant cake with too many details on the cake is just not elegant/stylish.

the red roses cake is her gift to the groom & the green flower (camelia?) cake is for the bride.

oh, btw, both cakes are marble cakes. her reason for the same type of cake....if they taste the same, then each side knows what the cake they gave to the other one tastes like...sooo cute :-D

to syikin & dini, selamat pengantin baru. moga kekal bahagia hingga ke syurga :-)

fondant cupcakes

this order was redirected to me by lynn hassan (thanks lynn :flowers: ) who couldn't take the order as azurah (the customer) wanted to balik kampung early & lynn was concerned that the cupcakes quality would suffer if they were made too early. since azurah would be in alor setar, kedah, lynn thought of me as a substitute baker.

azurah ordered carrot almond cupcakes to be decorated in fondant and royal icing. she actually gave a sample of lynn's cupcake design for me to follow (the last picture here), but since i don't have the same type of fondant roller, i had to make something slightly different. likewise with the nozzle for the royal icing flowers.

the colour theme was blue, with white/silver accents. forgot to confirm what type of blue azurah wanted until it was too late & i couldn't get her on her cellphone. so, i just went ahead and chose baby blue (i love this colour...it's sooooo sweet ;-) ). besides, if i made it a deeper shade of blue, everyone who ate the cupcakes would end up with smurf tongues LOL

happy birthday mom!

this order came from a colleague at the office who is becoming a regular customer & who helps promote my cakes to others (thanks syera! :flowers: )

syera's mom doesn't like chocolate cakes & syera didn't want to go for easily available cakes like buttercakes or spongecakes 'cos she wanted something special for her mom. we finally settled on almond sugee cake with whipped topping decoration.

i'm glad that the syera found the cake beautiful & delicious. her mom even had 2 slices (which is a lot since she normally takes only 1 slice, if at all). her mom also kept aside the flowery portion of the cake....they said it was almost too pretty to eat :-D

(i just noticed...kinda sounds like i'm tooting my own horn loudly. but hey, what's the purpose of marketing if not to promote the "goodness" of my products? LOL )

cupcake class

i have never gotten requests for cupcake classes which runs the whole gamut, ie, from baking to decorating the cupcakes. initially, i wasn't too sure whether i should have this class, but then again, i've got to start somewhere.

so, my first cupcake class was held for nurul a.k.a. nursha (i know what the "sha" stands for, but i'm keeping it a secret 4 nurul's sake... 8-) ) & her sis-in-law, sharinee. we baked vanilla cupcakes & decorated them with buttercream icing.

all of us had fun decorating the cupcakes (and eating the "rejects" LOL LOL !!), and i'm sure nurul & sharinee will see orders pouring in for their funky cupcakes soon :->

carrot cake

this was an order from a teacher at my sons' school, sek. keb. sri kulim, kedah....tq pn noridah (i hope i spelt your name correctly)

it was a bit of a rush job actually 'cos the delivery, which originally was scheduled for saturday morning, had to be pushed up to friday night. fortunately, pn. noridah stays close by to my house, so it wasn't a problem for the cake to be collected at 11 p.m.

happy to hear from pn noridah that the cake was pretty & delicious :-D

basic breadbaking class-26 july 2008

this class, like the class for iyta, was postponed a few times until i finally managed to have it on 26 july.

my "student" this time was jothi, who's a colleague of halijah (halijah attended my my breadbaking and basic cake decoration classes previously). thanks halijah for recommending my class to jothi :flowers:

jothi wanted the class to be fully hands-on....by this i mean that she kneaded the dough by hand. it took a bit of time, but jothi kept at it until the dough was really soft & elastic, which makes for softer bread.

as usual, for the breadbaking class, i taught jothi how to make a sandwich loaf and a variety of buns from sweet dough.

hope that jothi has since baked more bread :-)

cupcakes & fondant wedding cake

got this order from hafizah, who's a friend of a friend (thanks wan a.k.a. sugarbuds for recommending me :flowers: ).

hafizah had an idea of the sort of decor she wanted, which made things easier for me (the last 2 pictures here are the samples). to the owner of the original designs, my apologies for not acknowledging u personally, but i don't know who u are. i still want to thank you, though :-)

for the cupcakes, i had to do some design modification. i think the original design was done on smaller cupcakes 'cos when i made these cupcakes in medium-sized souffle casings, the design looked kinda "empty". so, i added some borders to fill in the space.

glad to hear from hafizah that the cakes were just what she wanted & that her mom & aunt loved them also :-D

basic breadbaking class-13 july 2008

this class was supposed to be held earlier this year. but due to unforeseen circumstances, we could only have it on 13 july.

i was a bit surprised that anita a.k.a. iyta would want to attend this breadbaking class of mine since she's already a successful frozen pau supplier. but i guess that's where true entrepreneurs differ from those who are in business for a short run.....the ones who are serious about their businesses constantly try to improve themselves and their products.

for this class, iyta learnt how to bake a sandwich loaf & a variety of buns using a sweet-dough mixture. happy to hear that iyta has successfully made bread on her own using the recipes she learnt in the class

chocolate on chocolate on chocolate wedding cake

this is almost one month overdue (i've given up trying to stick to the "once-a-week" schedule...now i update my fp as and when i'm free a.k.a. when i'm not too lazy... LOL ).

its a chocolate moist cake covered in chocolate ganache and topped with white chocolate roses. really enjoyed making this one as it was a wedding gift for a friend of the family and i learnt how to make white chocolate roses.

i could've done things a simpler way - just buy the flowers and stick them on the cake - but hey, where's the fun in that? so, with a little help from my friends in resipidotnet, in particular fatimah borhan in singapore, i managed to come up with these gorgeous (masuk bakul angkat sendiri :P ) roses. as such, the entire cake was edible.

i got feedback from the groom later that the wedding couple only managed to taste a small slice....the rest was gobbled up by the wedding party.... LOL LOL

to azwadi & faezah, selamat pengantin baru. moga kekal bahagia hingga ke syurga. oh, and if you'd like some more of the cake, drop by the house sometime...just let me know one day in advance so i can bake one especially for the both of you.

basic decor class-14 june 2008

i held a basic decor class for ruhayu, who came all the way by motorbike from batu maung in penang.

ayu wasn't too fussy about making the decorations "perfect"....she was more interested in learning the techniques. also, since she was the only student, the class went quite smoothly & we finished earlier than scheduled.

these are the cakes that ayu decorated. she has the talent (she successfully piped the buttercream roses on her first try!) & with further practice and more attention to detail, her cakes will be absolutely beautiful to look at :-)
